GOTR and GOT in the Northwoods
|
Girls on the Run offers unique programs for different age groups. The "Girls on the Run" curriculum was developed specifically for 3rd-5th graders while the "Girls on Track" curriculum was created to address issues affecting 6th-8th graders. The underlying principles are the same, but "Girls on Track" goes into more depth on the topics. Lesson topics include: healthy relationships, personal safety, media basics, avoidance of tobacco, drugs and alcohol, and more.
Through interactive activities such as running, playing games, and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls.
Program Design:
- Curriculum teaches life skills through group processing, running games and workouts.
- The curriculum is based on extensive educational research and "on-the-track" testing.
- The three-part curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes understanding ourselves, valuing teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large.
- Girls choose and conduct a community service project.
- At each season's conclusion, the girls complete a 5K running event as a group.
Upcoming Girls on the Run - Spring 2011 AVW, LdF, MHLT and NLES will be hosting sites of Girls on the Run for the Spring 2011 program. Registration will be available in the fall for this program.
Upcoming Girls on Track - Fall 2010 We will be piloting our first session of Girls on Track (GOT) this fall in Manitowish Waters. For Girls on Track registration form, click here. When coaches become available at other locations, GOT will be offered at other sites as well. If you are interested in coaching either Girls on Track or Girls on the Run, please contact Lynn Laurence at GOTRnorthwoods@gmail.com.
Also, please understand that the cost to present this program is $150/girl. For information on our sliding fee scale, click here. Our council works hard throughout the year to fund-raise so that the price can be reduced to the girls of our Northwoods community. Any additional contributions that you can make will be GREATLY appreciated!
Scholarships are available to those in need. Scholarship forms and documents supporting such a request will be kept strictly confidential. Scholarship forms and supporting documents need to be mailed WITH the registration form.

About our fees...
|
The actual cost to deliver GOTR is $150 per girl, but thanks to our community support and fundraising efforts, we can offer a sliding fee scale. The registration fee covers:
- researched and Girls On The Run and Girls On Track curriculum
- 20 lessons conducted by trained and CPR certified coaches
- an official GOTR or GOT t-shirt
- participation in 5K Event
- Water bottle
- supplies for each lesson
- healthy snack at each lesson
- liability insurance for participants
- administration of GOTR or GOT program
- scholarship program
A family that can afford to pay $150 is asked to pay the full amount. Families who cannot afford the full amount can choose a program fee ranging from $25 to $149. Girls participate equally in the program regardless of the amount her family pays.
The following scale is provided for families to choose the fee they can afford. It's important that each family contribute as much as it can. Local fundraising efforts and donations help bridge the gap between program fees paid and actual program cost.
Greater than $75,000 $150 $50,000 - $74,999 $100 $30,000 - $49,999 $75 $20,000 - $29,999 $50 Less than $19,999 $25
